Welcome to Profiles Theatre
Opened: September 14, 2007 - Closed: December 16, 2007
Profiles Theatre has extended its hit production of Neil LaBute’s comedy Some Girl(s) through December 16, 2007. Some Girl(s) is the first production of Profiles’ 2007-2008 Season, which is devoted to the works of acclaimed playwright and filmmaker Neil LaBute. The production is now playing at the Profiles Theatre, 4147 N. Broadway, Chicago.
A single man, about to get married and rush off on his honeymoon, embarks on an odyssey across the country to meet up with five ex-girlfriends and “right some wrongs.” Some Girl(s) casts a truthful, hilarious light on a typical young American male as he wanders through the heart of darkness that is himself. The production will include a new scene by LaBute that has never before been seen on an American stage.
Some Girl(s) received its World Premiere on London’s West End in May 2005 and had its New York Premiere with Manhattan Class Company in May 2006. The New Yorker raved, “LaBute continues to probe the fascinating dark side of individualism. His great gift is to live in and to chronicle that murky are of not-knowing, which mankind spends much of its waking life denying.” The Journal News exclaimed, “LaBute’s view of modern men and women is unsparing. He is holding up a pitiless mirror to ourselves.” Profiles Theatre continues its collaboration with Neil LaBute following the hit Midwest Premieres of “Fat Pig” and “autobahn”. Both “autobahn” and “Fat Pig” received unanimous critical acclaim and were extended multiple times.
"I'm a lucky man and a happy playwright to have a growing association with Profiles Theatre in Chicago. They are everything that Chicago theatre-more than that, theatre anywhere-should be; masterful artists who rule a small space and have something to say. They are a fearless company and they consistently set the bar higher for themselves and others in the theatrical community. The fact that they plan to spend their season dealing with my plays is a tribute to both them and myself-Profiles reminds me why I started doing this work in the first place: to wake people up and make a difference."

"SOME GIRL(S), currently in a very provocative Midwest premiere at Profiles Theatre, heads for the jugular. Intensely and honestly played, the bitter interchange just sizzles!"
"Highly Recommended! SOME GIRL(S) is an ideally cast Chicago premiere with clever twists that is sure to delight anyone who has ever been unceremoniously dumped. Under Joe Jahraus' sleek direction, Darrell W. Cox is fully believable as the near-compulsive dissembler and the four actresses are perfection!"

1/2! SOME GIRL(S) is insightfully directed and designed. Darrell W. Cox nails the character and the actresses who make up the ensemble serve him very well. A first rate production!"
"Lean, wry and unsentimental, with caustic humor and chilly candor, LaBute's examination of the carnage resulting from a busted romance is the sort of relationship drama at which Profiles excels. Director Joe Jahraus' taut production reflects a harmonious union between playwright and theater company!"
"Playwright Neil LaBute, director Joe Jahraus and leading man Darrell W. Cox fit together like perfectly cut puzzle pieces, making Profiles' production a twisted treat of emotional heft and devious humor!"
"Profiles Theatre's huge success with Neil LaBute continues with this very well choreographed production of SOME GIRL(S). Deftly handled with strong performances, you are in for a treat!"
"Highly Recommended! The actors are all top-notch. A truly insightful contemporary comedy, SOME GIRL(S) is a great show!"
