REPARATION is the story of a desperate lawyer who is lured by his wealthy client into a bizarre world of greed and immorality. Berman is a successful and highly regarded lawyer deeply in debt to Randolph, his most notorious and powerful client. When Randolph comes to him with one final business deal, Berman is forced to confront his darkest fears.
Profiles Theatre follows its critically acclaimed, award-winning production of "Blackbird" with the World Premiere of REPARATION by David Schulner. Mr. Schulner's other plays include "An Infinite Ache" (premiered at the Long Wharf Theatre in 2001, and was subsequently produced at the Old Globe Theatre), "This Thing of Darkness" (co-written with Craig Lucas and premiered at the Atlantic Theater Company), "Isaac" (premiered at the Sundance Theatre Lab), and "Disturbed by the Wind" (premiered at New York Stage and Film). Mr. Schulner has been commissioned by the Joseph Papp Public Theater, South Coast Repertory and Actors Theatre of Louisville Humana Festival.
Profiles Theatre's production of REPARATION will be directed by Richard Cotovsky. Mr. Cotovsky is a founding member and the current Artistic Director of Mary-Arrchie Theatre Company, where he received a Joseph Jefferson Citation for Director for "The Freedom of the City", as well as a Jeff Citation Nomination for Director for "The Killer and the Comic". Mr. Cotovsky has directed shows at A Red Orchid Theater, Live Bait Theatre, and Irish American Heritage Theatre, among others. His other critically acclaimed productions include "Detective Story" and "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" for Mary-Arrchie Theatre. The production staff features: Caroline Neff (Stage Manager), Joe Jahraus (Set/Light Designer), Lindsay Gould (Costume Designer), and Profiles' Company Member Eric Burgher (Sound Designer).
The role of Berman will be played by Profiles' Artistic Director Joe Jahraus. Mr. Jahraus was most recently seen as Matt in Profiles' Midwest Premiere of "Noise". Prior to that, he was seen as Captain Mike in Profiles' Midwest Premiere of "Wonder of the World". Mr. Jahraus received a 1999 Joseph Jefferson Citation Nomination for Ensemble for his performance in Profiles' lauded production of "Stray Dogs". He has appeared in numerous productions at Profiles including the Joseph Jefferson Citation-winning productions of "Some Voices", "Eye of God", "The Baby Dance", and the two year run of Ben Elton's "Popcorn".
The role of Randolph will feature Associate Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox. Mr. Cox was most recently seen as Baylis in Profiles' acclaimed production of "Blackbird", for which he received his third Joseph Jefferson Citation for Principal Actor. Prior to that, he appeared as David in Steppenwolf Theatre's production of "Orange Flower Water" at the Galway Arts Festival, and in its Midwest Premiere in Chicago. Mr. Cox was first seen at Steppenwolf in the World Premiere of "Wendall Greene". He won his other two Joseph Jefferson Citations for Principal Actor for his performances in Profiles' productions of "Some Voices" and "Eye of God". Mr. Cox has also received two After Dark Awards for Outstanding Performance for his work in Profiles' "Popcorn", and "Carnal Knowledge". In addition, he has received three Joseph Jefferson Citation Nominations for Principal Actor for his performances in Profiles' productions of "Popcorn", "The Baby Dance" and "Carnal Knowledge", as well as a Joseph Jefferson Citation Nomination for Supporting Actor for "Stray Dogs".
The role of Claire will be played by Craig Degel. Mr. Degel most recently appeared as Mike in "A View From the Bridge" at American Theatre Company. Prior to that, he was seen as Lippo Fiorentino in "Street Scene" at The Artistic Home, for which he received an After Dark Award for Best Ensemble. Mr. Degel also appeared in American Theatre Company's acclaimed production of "The Hairy Ape" and "Memory of Water" at Will Act For Food.
The role of Reezim will feature Sean Nix. Mr. Nix most recently understudied Harry J. Lennix in "Permanent Collection" at Northlight Theatre. Prior to that, he was seen in Congo Square Theatre Company's production of "The House That Jack Built". Mr. Nix also appeared in Timeline Theatre Company's staged reading of "A Season in the Congo" for the Playing French Festival. He has been seen at A Red Orchid Theatre, Collaboraction Theatre Company, eta Creative Arts, MPAACT and Bailiwick Repertory.
