Profiles' Award-Winning and critically acclaimed production of the Chicago Premiere of Tim Blake Nelson's EYE OF GOD opened in the fall of 1997. The production ran for 5 months and was the most successful show for Profiles to that date. EYE OF GOD is a riveting drama about a young woman's fateful marriage to an ex-convict and its shattering effect on a small Oklahoma town. Through flashbacks and overlapping scenes, the story unfolds through the eyes of the sheriff of Kingfisher, Oklahoma. A traumatized and blood-drenched 14 year old boy is discovered while a courtship is revealed between a born-again ex-convict, and a shy, gentle waitress. The play addresses issues of morality and faith as these two parallel story lines interweave, building to an emotional and disturbing climax.
"One of the Best Plays of 1997!"
"Recommended! Best Bet! "Eye of God" is a chilling tale of innocence lost. Tim Blake Nelson's play is uncompromising and brutal...Lisa Devine's staging is equally chilling and compassionate...the wrenching accuracy of Profiles' local premiere brings "Eye of God" way too close for comfort."
"Recommended! The multitiered flashback style and metaphoric commentaries on the dangers of fanaticism carry this engrossing work to a higher level of exploration."
