The Chicago Premiere of Timothy Mason's BABYLON GARDENS opened Profiles' 10th Anniversary Season. The play received its World Premiere at New York's famed Circle Repertory Theatre where Mr. Mason was a resident playwright. BABYLON GARDENS is an unflinching view of life in urban America following a New York couple's attempts to take in and nurture strangers after the loss of their child. Bill is a nurse anesthetist who finds solace in the memories of his elderly patients and in helping a destitute, yet often conniving homeless woman. His wife, Jean, is an artist trying to find refuge in her paintings, until she becomes fascinated by a troubled young boy she finds fishing by the East River. In spite of the efforts of their friends, Bill and Jean's self-destructive course collides with these unpredictable strangers leading to a startling and devastating climax.
"Heart-wrenching, intelligent and passionate...a well staged savvy drama."
"Wins your heart...a moving tale of survival, separation and loss of hope."
